Using Failed Search Results to Improve Your Website
Are visitors to your website able to easily find what they are looking for?
How do you know for sure?
Fortunately, the Bongo4U website system has a built-in feature to let you know which searches are failing, so you can take some corrective action.
You have a search box at the top of all pages on your website, right? If not, then you need to get one added ASAP. Website visitors are usually short on time and they only want to search for specific item(s).
The Bongo4U system records every successful and every failed search done on your website. For every word that someone can’t find on your website, that word can be added onto the appropriate page of your website, and subsequent searches for that word will succeed for all future visitors.
Here’s what to do:
Login to the Admin area of your website. On the main menu, select “Website Usage” and set its report duration to “Past 12 Months”. Look at the “Top Searches – NOT Found” report. There’s a wealth of information to be found on this page! Now you know what people have been searching for on YOUR website, but not finding. If the words are appropriate to your business, then you should edit the appropriate page(s) and add these words into the content on those page(s). It’s easy to do or ask Emerge2 to do it for you. After being added, those words will be found by your future visitors.
Check this Website Usage report on a monthly or quarterly basis and add the appropriate missing words. It’s a quick and easy way to provide successful content to visitors of your website so they can quickly find what they are looking for.
Extra bonus of this approach: The next time search engines scan your website for new content, they will pick up these additional new words. As a result, future searches in these search engines will start to provide your website information in the results when people search for these recently added words.
